But don’t be fooled. As problematic and prevalent as it may be, stranger danger is not as ominous as what is perpetrated inside the home, behind closed doors, by caregivers, guardians, fathers, stepfathers, uncles, brothers, family members, distant relatives, close friends, trusted neighbours, teachers, religious leaders, and others.
Misguided emphasis may be placed on people on the street or on-line, internet predators and stanger danger may cause us to overlook those closest to us.
Nine out of ten sexually abused children are assaulted by family members and close acquaintances. And most often, it happens right in children’s own home.
